Abandoned Guayama Molino – The Sugar Plantation Tower in Puerto Rico

The Ingenio Azucarero Vives sugar plantation tower can be found just off of Av Pedro Albizu Campos in Guayama, Puerto Rico.

The settlement of Guayama was founded in 1736 and by the late 1870’s had 14 sugar plantations of its own. Ingenio Azucarero Vives sugar tower is one of the many that still remain today. In 1976, the sugarcane building was put on the National Register of Historic Places. There are outlying brick buildings left as well, a monument to the time sugar ruled as industry.
